Oxford Fashion Week Lingerie Show 2014
10-Mar-2014
The lingerie show on the 6th March was definitely the most intimate and exclusive show of the Oxford Fashion Week 2014. The runway show featured designs from Silk Cocoon, Nichole de Carle, Pure Chemistry Lingerie and many other brands. The show was directed by two past faces of Oxford Fashion Week, Tiffany Saunders and Emma Appleton who have gone on to become full-time models. The catwalk models were beautiful students from Oxford University and Oxford Brooks University. The show was very well organised and all the models did great jobs in bringing all the designs into life. Silk Cocoon’s luxury silk nightwear collections were no doubt the most eye catching pieces which brought to the show luxury, style and taste at the highest level. Reviewed by Lucy Garside from the OFW team: “The show that followed was a portrayal of the duality of a personality, the innocent damsel, and the provocative rebel… a real masterclass in the art of the alter-ego. The beautiful, extremely tall Fionna Callaghan stepped onto the runway in a blue camisole and knickers opening the damsels’ half, laden in jewellery and with delicate tendrils of hair framing her face as her movements lulled the audience into a sense of fantasy and calm. Beautiful babydolls, delicate two piece sets and even luxurious nighties and liquid soft robes from Silk Cocoon followed, casting a wash of serene beauty over the audience.” For the detailed review, please visit: http://blog.oxfordfashionweek.com/ Dr. Ying Groves Director and Designer of Silk Cocoon commented: “We are so pleased to be invited by Oxford Fashion Week 2014 to present Silk Cocoon’s collections. All the models and organisers have done a great job. The response from the audience reminded me how beautiful Silk Cocoon’s collections are. The show made me very happy as a designer. The models did not want to take off the samples as they felt so comfortable and so pampered in luxurious silk”. Thanks to our Photographer Pierre Chan (Tel: 077 111 888 98) for catching all the wonderful moments.

New Stockist and Harrogate Lingerie and Swimwear Trade Fair
15-Sep-2009
The Harrogate Trade Fair for Lingerie and Swimwear August 2009 in general was a bit quiet as predicted. There was a reduced number of exhibitors and as a result, exhibition Hall A where Silk Cocoon used to be was closed. However, Silk Cocoon enjoyed the well lit Hall M with a bigger stand. Many retailers did not manage to visit the trade fair in order to minimise their costs, though most of the visitors were quality buyers. Silk Cocoon launched their new designs for Spring Summer 2010 with the most exotic design of a hand painted silk tunic with crystal beads. The catwalk of Silk Cocoon’s silk tunic wowed the audience. As always, Silk Cocoon’s stand with its silk nightwear and silk bras stood out during the show and it was a must to see stand for quality lingerie buyers. Silk Cocoon is very pleased to have four new stockists: Frances Rae at 8 Baker Street, Weybridge KT13 8AU; Verite Louise Lingerie at 12 The Courtyard, Montpellier, Cheltenham, GL50 1SR, a new shop to be opened on the 2nd November; Harveys of Halifax Department Store at Commercial Street, Halifax, West Yorkshire, HX1 1LJ and Black Lace, a lingerie shop in Lagos, Nigeria. There are a few more customers in the process of making orders. Silk Cocoon staff was pleased to meet their return customers. It is pity that not every visitors were caught camera this time. Sadly Silk Cocoon’s loyal customers Rosaleen Ward of Petticoat Lady in Ireland and Pat Boocock of Stewarts Lingerie in Bingley will be retiring after many years in the lingerie business. We wish them all the best for their retirement.

Silk Cocoon launched their AW 2009 Collections at Harrogate
06-Mar-2009
The general mood of the industry may still be sombre, but the Harrogate Lingerie and Swimwear show was better than expected. There were much less exhibitors and visitors. However, there were mostly quality buyers and not as many time wasters as in the past. Retailers may be gritting their teeth ahead of a tough year of trading, but they are still buying good brands such as Silk Cocoon. Angie Parmenter, owner of Joy Fine Lingerie in Oxford commented “People still treat their loved ones for Christmas with fine things like silk nightwear. During the economic recession, people like to buy good quality and lasting luxury for a real treat.” This was reflected by the confident orders from retailers at the stand for Silk Cocoon.
To celebrate the 5th year’s birthday, Silk Cocoon had prize draws at the show. The first prize winner was Helen Travers of Contour in Dublin who won a King Size Silk filled Duvet, Angie Parmenter of Joy in Oxford and Anne Horton of Hoopers in Tunbridge Wells won Silk Cocoon’s luxury two tone coloured silk scarves.
Silk Cocoon launched their new designs for autumn and winter 2009 with the most luxurious vintage lace and baby doll silk nightwear, hand painted kimonos and silk bras at Harrogate.
Throughout the three days event, Silk Cocoon’s stand was very busy with visitors. We were unable to take photos of all our visitors but here are some of the few to share.

Prof. Alison Prince as Advisor for Silk Cocoon on silk bras
25-Sep-2008
It is estimated that more than 80% of women in the UK are wearing wrong size bras. This was confirmed when Prof. Alison Prince of De Montfort university, the authoritarian of Contour Fashion, together with Silk Cocoon conducted a bra measuring and fitting for Oxford women in Aug 2008. Only less than 20% of these participants were wearing correct size fitted bras. The majority were wearing too small cups and too big a bra band. Incorrect bra size particular big bra band does not give you the support you need, smaller cups would constrain and hurt your breast tissues, reduce blood supply to your breasts, which can lead to serious consequences and also give you ugly bulging silhouette. It inevitably makes one feel discomfort and less confident. Right size and comfortable bras show off better curves and make you feel good and confident. Most “silk bras” available in the market have man-made fibres (chemical synthetic) for cup linings, wings and trims, i.e. all the parts next to skin. Only the outside cover of the cups are silk. Silk Cocoon will launch their long awaited most comfortable silk bras. Aiming for an ultimate fit, superior quality, luxury and sensual elegance, the silk bras will be made of the finest silk throughout including the lining; the shapely moulded cups will be encased in silk to achieve extra breathing and comfort. Silk Cocoon’s silk bra is all about reflecting the brand's finest quality, sexier body-consciousness and stylish personality. It is for women who enjoy the real comfort and appreciation of true quality. Silk Cocoon’s management team has been in discussion with quite a number of bra manufacturers for Silk Cocoon over the last three years. The manufacture of silk bras is the most technically challenging and complicated engineering work. Dr. Ying Groves remarked that “after visiting and trying out many factories, we finally selected an up-market bra factory which specialises only in silk bras for top Italian and Japanese brands. Each silk bra will be couture made to perfection. Mass production is never an option for Silk Cocoon. In addition to silk nightwear, we would also like to provide to the lingerie market with the most comfortable, luxurious bras at affordable prices”. As a responsible and ethical Brand, Silk Cocoon is pleased to have Prof. Alison Prince of De Montfort University (the only University which provides a Lingerie Fashion degree in the world) on Board to make sure that Silk Cocoon’s silk bras are made to fit perfectly, scientifically structured and engineered, and also to help our customers and general public to understand the importance of wearing the correct size bra and to provide professional guidance in determining the correct size bras. Wearing a silk bra is the ultimate luxury that every woman can dream of. It is so important that silk, the most delicate natural fabric with a composition of pure organic proteins as a layer of serum next to your more sensitive parts of your body and most important assets of a woman. The free breathing, high absorbency of a silk bra will always keep your breasts feeling fresh, in contrast to artificial fabric lined bras which suffocate your skin and make you perspiration excessively in hot weather. Silk Cocoon’s silk bras will be available in year 2009.

Silk and Wagner
15-Sep-2008
Wagner was known as one of the great composers, but very few know about his fetish for silk, which soon will be revealed by Prof. Laurence Dreyfus of Oxford University in part of a BBC classical music pilot project. Was it the luxury and sensuality of silk that gave Wagner inspiration for the emotional expression of his music? According to Dr. Ying Groves of Silk Cocoon “As 100% organic fibre which shares the same protein as human’s skin, silk is the most luxurious, comfortable, soothing and sensual fabric on earth. Wearing silk not only is good for the skin but also helps with the exploration of one’s romantic and sensual desire and touches one's inner self. “ The leading fashion designer Oscar de la Renta stated: “Silk does for the body what diamonds do for the hand”.

Lingerie business is still hot despite the current uncertain economic climate

Luxury lingerie and nightwear brand such as Silk Cocoon were on the top list of independent lingerie buyers during the recent Harrogate Lingerie and Swimwear show. Silk Cocoon’s stand had been always busy throughout the show. Most buyers are more cautious about their buying under the current uncertain economic climate, but it is encouraging to see everyone making an effort to source the best products in an effort to stay one step ahead of the game. The launch of silk bras by Silk Cocoon attracted lots of buyers. “The bra measuring on the stand was good fun but it is also a very important step to ensure Silk Cocoon’s silk bra are the best fit. The show is such wonderful event to meet existing customers, friends and new buyers”.
Angie Parmenter, owner of Joy in Oxford stated that “The current credit crunch may affect the lower end high street market; independent lingerie boutiques like Joy who offers personal service and exclusive products still see the growth. Top quality silk nightwear from Silk Cocoon will be always in demand”.
Silk Cocoon is very delighted to add Baressensuals of Bridge Allan, Curves & Lace of Glasgow and the new owners of Nancy Jean of Ayr as our stockists. Please check the website for details of the stockists http://www.silkcocoon.co.uk/index.cfm?page=storelist.cfm

Silk Cocoon Set up own Manufacturing Unit
28-Jul-2008
Silk Cocoon has set up its own manufacturing unit in a beautiful town at the heart of the mulberry silk production in Zhejiang Province, China, where most of the top-end international brands have their silk nightwear made.
Silk Cocoon is renowned for its high quality silk nightwear. With its rapid growth of top-end lingerie stockists, it is an obvious choice for Silk Cocoon to have its own manufacturing unit in order to maintain the brands constant top quality and its first class flexible tailor made service to their stockists. Their new General Manager in China, Lincai Zhou used to hold an important position for a top silk nightwear manufacturer and has overseen Silk Cocoon’s orders for the last few years. Lincai who is a perfectionist shares the same vision as Silk Cocoon for quality and ethics. Dr. Ying Groves of Silk Cocoon commented that “We have selected a small team of the most skilled seamstresses and technical experts including pattern cutters and fabric inspectors who are experienced in making silk nightwear for top international brands. With our own manufacturing unit, we will be able control every stage of production to the highest standard, speedier delivery, flexible service and also ability to launch more styles. The previous factory has increased our FOB price by 30-50% over the last 2 years. Hopefully with control of our own manufacture, we will be able to use the best grade silk whilst maintaining affordable prices.” "Each staff would earn much more money to work for Silk Cocoon within regular working hours compared with working long overtime periods in other factories. We are also very glad that we were able to find premises which is powered by solar panels!”

Showing at Harrogate lingerie and Swimwear exhibition is always tiring but fruitful and a memorable event for Silk Cocoon because so many happy return and new customers come to view our new collections, making orders or just saying hello. “ I was very touched when Sadie Ayton, the owner of Sadie the Bra Lady coming to says thanks for the beautiful Silk Cocoon scarf she received from her VIP bag last year” commented by Dr. Ying Groves. Sadie who has been in the Bra business for more than 40’s year, the real Queen of Bras, added “Silk Cocoon’s silk nightwear is so beautiful. It is pity that we only stock bras and I am 71 years old now and going to retire soon. Otherwise, I would love to have Silk Cocoon”.
Silk Cocoon was also delighted to add new customers such as Oldrids, Fair Goth Mother, Can-Can and Undies Unlimited of the UK and Ahvage in South Ireland. Please check the website for details of the stockists http://www.silkcocoon.co.uk/index.cfm?page=storelist.cfm

Eleanor Glynn, Miss England who was also Miss Oxford 2006, may have handed over her crown but she is still making the most of her beautiful bikini body.
Eleanor is showing off her stunning figure in her latest modelling assignment to be the face of the quality British Brand, Silk Cocoon.
“Our nightwear is for real women,” said Dr. Groves. “We chose Eleanor because she is nothing like the painfully thin models that nobody can identify with. Eleanor’s stunning good looks and charming inner beauty have been praised by everyone who knows her. Silk Cocoon, also based in the cultural and historical city of Oxford, is internationally renowned for its top quality and elegant designs of silk nightwear. It is a match made in heaven. With a curvy size 10 and elegant looks, Eleanor has the perfect figure and image for Silk Cocoon. ”
The 21 year-old Eleanor who has experienced firsthand rejection from some of the top modelling agencies for being the wrong shape and overweight, was delighted to model silk nightwear. Eleanor said: “I have been treated like a queen and have had some wonderful engagements this year. Modelling is always my dream and passion but wearing all silk is a sensuous feeling that is hard to beat.”
“I am definitely converted to wearing silk nightwear which is the best material for preserving one’s beauty and youth.”
Eleanor handed over her crown on 30th June 2007, but she still needs silk nightwear that gives her that star-quality as she is on the path to stardom. Eleanor, the leading singer and song writer of the Big Bad City band has just finished filming in one of the lead roles for the “Bollywood” musical movie India Rocks.

As a successful business start up, Silk Cocoon was invited to exhibit and give advice to women who want to start their own business 'What’s stopping you?” a one day event organised by Business Link South East. More than 100 women who are thinking to set up their own business from home bakery to online business attended this event. Silk Cocoon, which supplies the highest quality silk nightwear with brand name also Silk Cocoon was launched by Dr. Groves in August 2004 after leaving her senior management position for a multinational company. After 3 years in business, the Silk Cocoon brand has become a very well known top end brand with around 100 stockists across a few countries. Dr. Ying Groves commented that “Many women, normally with great care and financial responsibilities to their family, start to think about working for themselves after some changes in their life. According Business Link, two out of three new businesses would fail in general. Therefore, it is so important that we share our experiences and lessons with others and help each other so as to increase opportunities of success. I am so glad that many women found Silk Cocoon’s story to be very inspirational and encouraging.”

Staff of Silk Cocoon were thrilled to see so many happy returned and new customers during the recent Harrogate Lingerie and Swimwear Exhibition, particularly at receiving buyers from Iceland. Kristin Einarsdottir, the Managing Director of Sigurboginn, a store specialised in the big International luxury brands to indulge women, in the Icelandic capital of Retkjavik said that “We found Silk Cocoon on the website and were excited to see the quality products on offer. Therefore we decided to come to Harrogate instead of going Lyon and Dusseldorf. It was our first time to the UK and we did not know really where Harrogate was. The journey took us a total of 16 hours door to door and was very exhausting. Seeing the Silk Cocoon’s silk nightwear in person made our journey really worthwhile!” Silk Cocoon’s nightwear will be available at Sigurboginn from the end of October 2007. Silk Cocoon was also delighted to add new customers such as Boudoir Kiss, La Jolie Madame, Feathers of Marlow and Persha Lingerie to their new stockist list in the UK and Ireland. Other new stockists are Bonne Nuit in New York and The Glossy Apple Boutique in Houston of the USA.
